Interlaken: Investor for Des Alpes hotel project bails out

The planned hotel on the Des Alpes site in Interlaken will not be realized for the time being. The investor Boissée Finance, which also wanted to operate the house, is withdrawing from the project because of the Covid 19 pandemic.

A team consisting of Losinger Marazzi and the investor and hotel operator Boissée Finances wanted to realize a hotel on the Des Alpes site along the Höhenweg by 2024, which was planned as a Marriott hotel in the four-star category. According to the development and operating concept, the municipality was to retain ownership of the Des Alpes restaurant on the site and continue to operate it. According to earlier information, Losinger Marazzi and Boissée Finance were to pay around CHF 4.5 million for the takeover of the hotel site.

These plans have now stalled for the time being. The municipality of Interlaken announced that Boissée Finances was withdrawing from all projects - and thus also from Interlaken - due to the situation surrounding Covid-19. The hotel company with its 81 hotels in six European countries had to suspend all its investment plans.

"This is a sensitive damper on the promising project, which would have given valuable confidence, especially at the present time," says Urs Graf, the mayor of Interlaken. However, the development plans for the Des Alpes site are by no means off the table. The municipal council now wants to examine the framework conditions under the changed situation and then decide on the further course of action. The council is confident that it will find new investment partners for the Interlaken destination and the attractive site. (ah)
