The listed Schader commercial building, a property of Zurich Insurance Company, is considered a gem of modern architecture in a prime location on the shores of Lake Zurich. The insurance group has commissioned Porr Suisse AG with the complete refurbishment of the building, which was planned and realized by architect Jacques Schader between 1969 and 1973; the refurbishment is scheduled to take place over the next 15 months.

According to Karl-Heinz Strauss, CEO of Porr, the contract includes dismantling the building, upgrading the supporting structure and removing all existing building services. Listed staircases and various facilities would be refurbished in accordance with the strict requirements. Another special feature of the project is the refurbishment of the listed façade: all façade elements would have to be dismantled, cleaned and repaired in workshops and then reinstalled. The building is to be certified with the LEED Gold (LEEDv4 Core & Shell) and Minergie (Standard) labels.

The commercial building, which is listed in the inventory of art and cultural-historical protected objects of municipal importance, consists of three basement floors, a first floor, and eight upper floors. The basement floors are used both before and after the conversion as archive and technical rooms, as well as parking areas. The above-ground floors contain mostly office space. (bw)
