Villa Wiesental, located on the site of the railroad station north, which the pension fund of the city of St. Gallen acquired from HRS Real Estate, should be renovated for several years already.

Initially, in addition to the renovation of the villa, the construction of a multi-story office building with underground parking was planned for around CHF 28 million. But this plan was scrapped, because in the immediate vicinity of the main train station, an urban hotel with modern interior design seemed more sensible to those responsible than an office building.

According to its own information, the total contractor HRS Real Estate AG has recently submitted a building application for the two buildings. If no objections are received, the building permit for the two buildings may be available by the end of the year. In this case, the hotel could open in spring 2023, and the renovation of the historic Villa Wiesental should also be completed by then.

According to local media, the pension fund of the city of St. Gallen is investing CHF 37 million in the project. (ah)
