In 2018, Warteck Invest won an investor competition and was awarded the building lease parcel at the intersection of Münchensteinerstrasse 117 and Walkeweg 1 by the Basel municipality. The real estate company is constructing a new building around 40 meters high on the plot, which has excellent transport links. According to Warteck Invest, the building permit for the project has now been issued.

With the Syd project, office and retail space will be created on twelve floors and with a total gross floor area of around 10,000 square meters on four floors. On the fifth to eleventh floors, 43 city apartments are planned, and on the first floor, public-intensive uses such as food retail or gastronomy are envisaged. The new building will have an underground parking garage with 50 parking spaces. The building will be surrounded by the new, publicly accessible Irène Zurkinden Square.

According to Warteck Invest, construction work is scheduled to start in mid-January 2021. A construction period of around 24 months is expected; Syd should be completed and ready for occupancy in January 2023. The company puts the investment costs at around CHF 45 million. (ah)
