Migros Aaare has been the owner of Gäupark since 2008. According to a statement by the cooperative, the development is in need of major renovation and no longer meets the requirements of safety regulations. This and the changed consumer behaviour of the clientele as well as the framework conditions in the design plan of the canton have given reason to redefine the orientation of the Gäupark, according to Migros.
In a first step, the current Melitta building on the south side is to be demolished and used as reserve land. In a second step, Migros wants to demolish the two-storey Gäupark-Nord building and replace it with a new building that meets today's construction and energy standards. In a third step, Gäupark-South is to be renovated. According to Migros, the entire construction project will take around two years to complete, based on current planning.
According to Migros, the planning application for the project was published on 29 October 2020. According to current planning, the new Gäupark is scheduled to open in spring 2024. (ah)
