The area near the Oberwangen railway station is largely unused today and lies fallow. According to information from the municipality of Köniz, Varem AG, as the landowner of the two key plots, is planning a high-density residential development with retail space on the site together with Halter AG.

In order for the new residential development to be realised, the basic building regulations must be amended. The basis for the amendment is an urban development guideline concept, which Varem has drawn up and which includes objectives and framework conditions in the areas of urban development, open space, traffic and access.

An ordinary land-use plan procedure is necessary for the amendment of the zone with planning obligation ZPP 12/3 Station Oberwangen. This involves public participation, a preliminary examination by the Cantonal Office for Municipalities and Spatial Planning, and a public display. Finally, the new plan will be submitted to the electorate for decision. Public participation began on 2 November 2020 and will continue until 2 December. (ah)
