Basel: University Hospital plans new buildings for 1.4 billion

The University Hospital Basel has informed about the next steps of its site development. Clinical Center 2 is to be replaced by a new building, and a new building for a third clinical center is also planned.

As the University Hospital Basel, the University of Basel and the Canton of Basel-Stadt announced at a joint medical conference, the "Campus Health" is to be developed over the next two decades.

According to the current planning status, a first phase of the new replacement building for Clinical Center 2 is to be realized between 2022 and 2028: A new tower and annex will be built. The new building of Klinikum 2 planned by the Giuliani.Hönger office is to replace the current building from the seventies at the same location. The Unispital Basel plans to submit the building application for Klinikum 2 soon.

The construction of Klinikum 3 is planned for the years 2024 to 2030. Then part of the uses are to be moved from Klinikum 2 to Klinikum 3 in order to be able to build the base of the new Klinikum 2 in 2031 to 2038. A design by the Herzog & de Meuron team with Rapp is to be implemented for Klinikum 3.

The University Hospital currently estimates the total costs for the further development of Campus Health at around CHF 1.4 billion over the next two decades. (ah)
