Construction started in October 2020, and the modern and sustainable building is scheduled to go into operation at the end of 2021: Right next to its existing goods distribution center in Weinfelden (TG), Lidl is building a new fruit and vegetable warehouse including its own banana ripening facility. Due to the pace of expansion that the discounter is setting with the opening of eight to ten stores per year in Switzerland, Lidl Switzerland needs new warehouse space.

In the new warehouse, a two-story modular building, around 10,000 pallet storage spaces are to be realized on a gross floor area of just under 23,000 square meters. The building will be constructed in accordance with the Minergie standard; only natural refrigerants will be used in subsequent operation.

In 2020, Lidl Switzerland opened ten new stores across Switzerland: Vernier (GE), Baden (AG), Rudolfstetten (AG), Moudon (VD), Reiden (LU), Gossau (SG), Basel (BS - store moved), Brugg (AG), Ebikon (LU), Zurich Hofwiesenstrasse (ZH). At the end of 2020, Lidl employed around 4,450 people - 450 more than in the previous year. (bw)
