Berne: Viktoria fire brigade barracks to be developed

The long-planned development of the old Viktoria fire department barracks in Bern is taking a step forward. The municipal council has created the prerequisites under planning law.

The building lease holder Equimo AG, which belongs to the Edith Maryon Foundation, and the Fire Brigade Viktoria cooperative want to further develop the former fire department barracks at Viktoriastrasse 70, which is currently being used intermediately and converted. Currently, the restaurant Löscher, a neighborhood workshop, coworking spaces and a platform with movement courses, among others, are located on the total of 4,100 sqm.

One of the plans is to replace or convert the existing hall building on Gotthelfstrasse. In the publicly used inner courtyard, a new building with service or commercial uses on the first floor is planned. The day school, which is already rented on the barracks site, is also to be integrated into the future planning.

Since the currently valid zone with planning obligation (ZPP) only permits residential use and no service or commercial use for new and replacement buildings, the municipal council is making minor adjustments to the ZPP regulations. Thus, non-disturbing work uses are permitted on the first floor. The maximum use will not be increased, but will now be shown as above-ground floor area (GFo) and no longer as gross floor area (GFA), according to the Bern City Council. The change of the zone with planning obligation (ZPP) Viktoriastrasse 70/70a (fire department barracks) is open to the public until March 15, 2021. (ah)
