Lucerne: Start of construction for nursing home in Elisabethenpark

The Elisabethenpark is being built in the Bruchmatt district of Lucerne. Construction work on the care centre and the apartments with and without services began in mid-February.

The groundbreaking ceremony for Elisabethenpark took place at the beginning of February, and construction work started in mid-February. Over the next two years, a care centre with 85 beds and 37 apartments with and without care services will be built. The non-profit building project is under the sponsorship of the Spitalschwestern-Gemeinschaft von Luzern.

The nursing home is embedded in a park and comprises three houses that are connected by a bridge. In addition, there will be common rooms, a cafeteria and a room of silence. A health and medical practice is also planned.

Once completed, the new centre will replace the current Elisabethenheim retirement and nursing home in Oberhochbühl, which has been run by the Spitalschwestern-Gemeinschaft since 1944, Elisabethenheim Luzern AG announced.

The building permit for the Elisabethenpark was issued in October 2019, the construction period is scheduled for two years. According to earlier reports. the cost of the new building is around CHF 40 million. Elisabethenheim AG acquired the property in 2016 from another community of sisters, the Helferinnen. (tp)
