The exemption from the Lex Koller, which restricts the purchase of holiday properties by foreigners in Switzerland, has been extended by ten years for Andermatt Swiss Alps (ASA). The exemption from the permit requirement was set by the Federal Council until the end of 2040 upon request. Andermatt Swiss Alps welcomes the Federal Council's decision: "This step allows the company to realise the Andermatt Swiss Alps destination to the extent envisaged and to further strengthen the economic development of the region."

The cantonal government of Uri is also pleased. Because the tourism project is considered an economic engine in the region; so far, around 1,000 new jobs have been created. Previously, the canton of Uri had lost about 1,400 jobs, mainly federal jobs from the army and the SBB. In addition, Andermatt is now the largest payer into the intra-cantonal financial equalization, explained Justice Director Daniel Furrer to the Luzerner Zeitung. The resort is also considered important for the development of the entire Gotthard region. (ah)
