Berne: Green light for development on the Meinen site
With a majority of almost 89%, the voters of Bern have approved the building regulations for the Meinen site. This means that the pension fund for doctors and veterinarians (PAT-BVG) can realise its residential and commercial development.
In the vote on 7 March 2021, the Schwarztorstrasse-Brunnmattstrasse development plan (Meinen site) was approved with 88.69 percent of the votes in favour. This means that a residential and commercial development can be built on the former Meinen AG site in the Mattenhof district.
As the landowner of five plots of land, the Physicians' and Veterinarians' Pension Fund (PAT-BVG) wants to build the housing estate along Brunnmattstrasse. In addition to non-disruptive work uses, shops and neighbourhood uses, a total of around 185 apartments are planned. One third of the living space is to be reserved for affordable housing, and both urban retirement living and large family apartments are planned.
Furthermore, the development should include attractive outdoor spaces with an inner courtyard, a small park and a roof terrace. The site should generate only a small amount of motorised traffic. At least 435 bicycle parking spaces are planned. (ah)
