The construction period for the renovation of the Villa Wiesental and the planned new hotel building with around 100 rooms is expected to take two years, according to the St. Gallen Pension Fund and HRS Real Estate AG. The costs are estimated at around CHF 31.5 million. A ceremonial laying of the foundation stone is to take place in June.

In consultation with the monument preservation authorities, the villa would be renovated and refurbished as needed. With the underground parking garage and the renovation, an urban planning solution has been found that takes appropriate account of the historic buildings and the urban development in the Bahnhof Nord district. The aim of the pension fund is to offer office space with the latest technologies. The villa has been vacant since 2005 and was sold by HRS Investment AG to the pension fund of the city of St.Gallen in 2019.

The tenant for the new hotel building has been determined: With the Hotel Wiesental St. Gallen AG, the entrepreneurs Marcel Walker, Dominik Grossenbacher and Samuel Vörös will rent the new building. Among other things, they already operate the "Lagerhaus" and the "Brauwerk" in St.Gallen. Their hotel concept, which is aimed at a younger audience, is intended to contribute to the "revitalization and upgrading of the quarter". (bw)
