Migros Aare purchased the post office site at Bahnhofstrasse 4 at the beginning of 2016 in order to put it to a new use. A development with a supermarket, other services and apartments is planned. The project in a complex urban location is intended to be a link between the railroad station and the listed old town of Aarberg.

After the planning foundations had been laid, the first construction work was to have begun last summer. Now, however, the Aarberg municipal council has announced that Migros is suspending the new building project until further notice due to the ongoing Corona crisis. Instead, Migros wants to set up a Voi branch in the existing property as a temporary solution. In addition, all existing rental agreements, including those with the post office, are to be retained. According to the municipal council, further possibilities for the project and the location issue are now to be discussed with representatives of Migros. (ah)
