Basel: Canton builds research centre for paediatric medicine
In the immediate vicinity of the university hospitals UKBB and USB, the canton of Basel-Stadt wants to construct an office building for the Botnar Research Centre for Child Health (BRCCH).
The canton of Basel-Stadt wants to realize the new research building for the BRCCH as an own investment and subsequently rent it to the user and its sponsoring universities, Immobilien Basel-Stadt announces. The building will be a pure office building and will be located at the corner of Schanzenstrasse and Spitalstrasse. The new building will provide workplaces for around 100 researchers.
Since May 5, 2021, an anonymous project competition for a general planning team has been announced. Within the framework of the procedure, Immobilien Basel-Stadt expects solutions for the urbanistically challenging and sensitive building corner. A low-CO2-emission and sustainable building with a high flexibility of use is sought.
The BRCCH was founded in 2019 with headquarters in Basel and is expected to become a leading application-oriented research institute for child and adolescent health in the coming years. The BRCCH is financed by contributions from the Fondation Botnar and supported by the University of Basel and ETH Zurich. In the coming years, up to six new assistant professorships with research groups are to be created together with the two universities. At least four of these will be located in the new research center. (ah)
