For the Eichwald development, EBG will take over a plot of land owned by the city of Lucerne on Eichwaldstrasse under building rights. Plans call for 49 apartments (1.5 to 5.5 rooms) in two apartment buildings. The listed salt magazine is to be renovated and become the community centre of the settlement. In addition to commercial space, 100 covered bicycle parking spaces and a large multi-purpose room are planned in the building.

The new buildings are to be SNBS Platinum certified; the development will be car-free and connected to public transport via various bus routes and the Messe S-Bahn station. A photovoltaic system on the site will supply 30% of the required electricity.

According to EBG, the investment costs will amount to around CHF 30 million; the construction loan has now been approved by the members of the cooperative. Construction is scheduled to start next year; occupation of the new buildings is planned for 2024. (ah)
