Basel: Four-star Hotel Märthof is opened
The Märthof boutique hotel has opened on Marktplatz in Basel. The property was previously home to the electronics retailer Interdiscount.
On July 28, BâleHotels, a member of the Coop cooperative, opened the four-star Hotel Märthof in Basel's old town. A boutique hotel with 68 rooms and suites on five floors has been created in the historic building with the address Marktplatz 19; remodeling was carried out according to plans by Burckhardt + Partner. On the first floor there is a restaurant with a bar and a terrace facing the market square. The hotel also has a fitness room, a wellness area, a banquet room and a roof terrace.
According to the owner Coop, the Märthof was created in the 1980s when the five independent residential and commercial buildings on Marktplatz and Eisengasse were combined into one building. The property was initially used as a department store, and most recently the retailer Interdiscount, which also belongs to Coop, was located here. (ah)
