Freienbach: Production plant for "green" hydrogen in the planning stage
Alpiq, EW Höfe and Socar Energy Switzerland want to realize an electrolysis plant for the production of "green" hydrogen in Freienbach (SZ).
According to the companies, the plant will be built in the former substation of EW Höfe in Freienbach. With a capacity of up to 10 MW, it will be significantly larger than the previous largest plant. According to the information, the hydrogen in Freienbach will be grid-connected and produced exclusively with electricity from renewable sources. It will be used primarily in heavy traffic and in areas where battery-electric drives are not a satisfactory solution.
The hydrogen produced in Freienbach will therefore be transported by pipeline from production at the former substation to the neighboring Fuchsberg freeway service area, where Socar will build hydrogen filling stations in both directions. At the same time, a filling plant is to be built at the service area in order to deliver the hydrogen not directly sold at the Fuchsberg freeway service area to other hydrogen filling stations in Switzerland.
