Bern: 3D city model now accessible to all
A digital 3D model of the city of Bern, previously used primarily by municipal departments, is now available to the general public.
The 3D model is available at www.bern.ch/3d-stadtmodell available for download. It includes all buildings of the city of Bern, the projected buildings and the most important bridges in detailed design. The outer municipalities were supplemented via data from the Federal Office of Topography.
Objects can be found with an address search or via predefined screen sections, and a layer directory makes it possible to switch individual topics, such as official surveying, on or off. A shadow course can also be simulated for any cloudless day. The "Measuring tools" element also allows distances or building heights to be taken from the model.
According to the city of Bern, the buildings and the terrain model were brought up to date last year on the basis of aerial photographs. In the process, vegetation data was also recorded for the first time, which is now also integrated into the city model. (ah)
