Lucerne: Littau West is to become a residential district
The Littau West site, one of the largest undeveloped residential areas in the city of Lucerne, is to be developed. A quarter with 360 apartments is planned.

The Littau West site on Renggstrasse is around ten hectares in size and comprises the Tschuopis and Jodersmatt areas, most of which are privately owned, and two municipal plots. In order to develop the site, the city has now drawn up a development plan together with the private landowners, which regulates the structural developments, outdoor spaces and access.
Eight construction areas were defined, on which around 360 apartments can be built: 270 on the private plots, 90 on the municipal plots. Three of the eight building areas - the two municipal and one private - are intended for non-profit housing. Three- to four-story buildings surrounded by green space are possible. According to the city of Lucerne, the building areas can be developed individually or together; the prerequisite is a qualified procedure, such as an architectural competition. (ah)
