St.Gallen: Housing stock increases significantly
In 2020, the canton of St.Gallen recorded 113,800 buildings with residential use, which is 350 residential buildings more than in the previous year. The residential area increased by 280,000 sqm within a year across the canton.

According to the statistics office of the canton of St.Gallen, the nearly 113,800 buildings with residential use comprised a total of about 264,000 apartments and 27.7 million square meters of living space. Compared to 2019, this represents an increase of about 350 buildings, 3,000 apartments and 280,000 square meters, it said.
The strongest growth in absolute terms was in the city of St.Gallen. Here, the housing stock increased by 478 units, according to the statisticians. In percentage terms, the largest increases in the number of apartments were recorded in Tübach (+13.8%) and Pfäfers (+6.1%).
