The 114,280 sqm Isola site near the village centre of Breitenbach (SO) has been used for industrial purposes for more than 100 years, but most recently industrial and warehouse buildings have always stood empty. In spring 2021, the Steiner Investment Foundation took over the site in order to realise a development with residential, service and commercial uses in stages.

According to Steiner AG, which has been commissioned with the project development, the existing village center is to be expanded in terms of specific uses. "We don't want to compete with the existing village center with this project at all, but rather complement it with attractive additional offerings," says Stefan Gabriel, team leader for real estate development at Steiner AG. Currently, the area is still closed, but it will be opened to the public in the future. Instead of the existing company roads and storage areas, Steiner wants to create meeting and green zones.

According to Steiner AG, construction of the first stage, including the respective remediation of contaminated sites, is expected to begin in 2029. Individual conversion projects for old existing buildings could be brought forward. It is also planned to allow various interim uses on the site during the planning phase and to open it up to the public. (ah)
