By 2029, the Bachwiesen care centre in Zurich-Albisrieden is to be expanded into a healthcare centre for the elderly (GZA) with 184 beds. The complex consists of the two houses A and B as well as a central wing. House B (64 beds) and the central wing were built in 2003 according to the plans of Althammer Hochuli Architekten and are to remain. House A, which is 60 years old and currently has 72 beds, is to be demolished and replaced by a new building. The new House A will have 120 beds and a day centre with outpatient services. The project competition for the project was won by the architectural team of Piertzovanis Toews from Basel together with the landscape architecture firm Zwahlen + Zwahlen from Cham.

The new seven-storey building is to be built slightly offset from the northern boundary of the plot and attached to the central section. In this way, a coherent building ensemble and a large, continuous parking area will be created with House B. The new day centre is located on the ground floor, where the entrance area, the restaurant and other publicly accessible rooms and zones are also located.

The City of Zurich estimates the construction costs for the new replacement building at CHF 61 million (excluding reserves; accuracy +/-25%). The referendum on the construction project is scheduled for 2024. Construction could then begin in 2025 and the building could be occupied in 2029. (ah)
