Immofonds wants to develop the 34,000-square-meter commercial site north of the Wankdorf train station into a neighborhood district - with apartments, offices, commercial businesses, restaurants, a daycare center and cultural offerings, as well as public open spaces. The uses are to take place at different heights, as in a stacked city. High bridges and terraces will connect the buildings. The maximum floor area allowed for the uses is 110,000 square feet.

The Immofonds sees its project competition as confirmation that this idea of a stacked city is feasible. From twelve architectural teams, the jury selected four that will now be involved in the implementation of the overall project. These are the offices Bauart Architekten und Planer with the project "Amélie et Monsieur Hulot", E2A Piet und Wim Eckert Architekten with "This is the next to that", the office Meili, Peter & Partner Architekten with "Segantini" and Bob Gysin Partner Architekten with "Collegato".

The four offices are now to work together with the client Immofonds, with Rolf Mühlethaler Architekten and Maurus Schifferli Landschaftsarchitekten, the general planner S+B Baumanagement and HRS Real Estate as the realization partner, initially on a preliminary project. The construction project will then be drawn up. According to Immofonds, construction work is expected to start at the beginning of 2024, with a total construction period of four to five years. (ah)
