Europe's largest capsule hotel opens at Zurich airport
The "Capsule Hotel Alpine Garden" opens at Zurich Airport - currently the largest capsule hotel in Europe, according to the operators.
In the Primecenter of Zurich Airport, directly opposite Check-in 1, the Capsule Hotel Alpine Garden has opened its doors. With 1,100 square meters and 144 beds, it is the largest hotel of its kind in Europe, the operators say.
In addition to the 144 sleeping capsules, each measuring around 2 square meters and developed and produced in Switzerland, the hotel also includes meeting zones, a wellness area, catering facilities and coworking opportunities. The interior of the hotel is designed with images of the Swiss Alps by nature photographer Fabio Zingg.
Capsule hotels have been widespread for many years, especially in Japan, and are often found near large train stations. They were born out of the need for cheap accommodation in cities where space is at a premium. The hotels with sleeping cabins are mainly used by business travelers. Capsule hotels have existed in Switzerland for several years, and the operators of the new hotel at Zurich airport also run one each in Basel and Lucerne. (ah)
