A residential quarter is being built at Wettingen station
SBB wants to build three new buildings with residential and commercial use on a site at Wettingen station.
The 35,000 sqm site around Wettingen train station (AG) is to be developed into a residential and commercial quarter over the next few years. Initial plans are now known for the SBB property, which is located directly on the tracks: Three buildings will house 110 apartments and 5,000 square meters of commercial space. The Stadtlaube design by a team led by the architectural firm Burkard Meyer, which won the project competition, will be implemented.
Along the tracks, two elongated, five-story residential buildings are planned with service, retail and restaurant space on the lower floors. To the east of this, a four-story service building with retail stores and gastronomy is to be built. The protected individual properties of the locomotive shed, goods shed, station building and turntable on the site will be preserved.
In addition to SBB, the other landowners of the station area include Swiss Post and, more recently, Avadis Anlagestiftung. It acquired a 10,000-square-foot parcel from Debrunner Acifer earlier this year and plans to build a 130-apartment, 1,000-square-foot retail superstructure. (ah)
