Cooperatives want to build in Lucerne
On Industriestrasse in Lucerne, five cooperatives are planning a development with affordable housing as well as commercial and service space.

A sustainable housing development is to be built on the Industriestrasse site near the Lucerne train station by 2026. To this end, five cooperatives are joining forces to form the association Kooperation Industriestrasse Luzern KIL. KIL is backed by the Allgemeine Baugenossenschaft Luzern ABL, the Wohnwerk Luzern building cooperative, the Liberale Baugenossenschaft Luzern, the Gemeinnützige Wohnbaugenossenschaft Industriestrasse GWI and the Wogeno Luzern cooperative. The cooperative has taken over the site in building rights from the city of Lucerne until the year 2096.
A mix of existing and new buildings is planned, providing affordable living and working space as well as community areas. Specifically, 14 individual buildings, 145 apartments and almost 3,000 sqm of commercial space are planned.
ABL is realizing a project section along the Geissensteinring with four differently designed buildings. These will contain 51 apartments and 924 square meters of service and commercial space, including a kindergarten for the city of Lucerne. Until April 7, the members of the cooperative can vote on the necessary framework credit of 28.4 million CHF. The other four cooperatives will also hold general meetings between March and May to decide on the project.
KIL plans to submit the building application for the overall project to the city in May at the latest, and the building permit is expected by the end of 2022. Provided no objections are received, construction can begin at the beginning of 2023, according to the schedule. Between 2024 and 2026, the settlement should be ready for occupancy in stages. (ah)
