Basel: ARGE Jonger Waeger wins competition for 125 apartments on VoltaNord
ARGE Jonger Waeger has won first prize in the competition for construction site 5 of the VoltaNord site in Basel. Between 125 and 140 apartments are to be built here.
In Basel, the Jonger Waeger Architects consortium has prevailed with its designs for construction site 5 on VoltaNord. On the site, better known as Lychsbüchel, the canton is building 125 to 140 apartments next to the elementary school. The winning project, called "Vita Volta," impressed the jury with its "robust urban design that responds pragmatically to the context." A building block in the north of the site is to serve as a noise barrier due to its height of 30 meters. Four lower cross-buildings to the south result in three well-lit residential courtyards that open onto Weinlagerstrasse.
The task of the anonymous project competition in an open procedure was to plan "affordable and high-quality housing according to ecological principles". The canton provided the planning teams with a climate neutrality assessment tool developed specifically for this competition. (aw)
