The landowner of the more than 16,000 sqm plot along the tracks north of Buchs station (SG) is SBB Immobilien. It has concluded a building lease agreement with Mettler2Invest. The real estate company wants to create a residential quarter with 221 high-quality apartments on the site, which has long been used as a freight transshipment point. A total of seven structures are planned, three of which will contain rental apartments (143 units), while the remaining four buildings will house a total of 78 condominiums. Furthermore, 263 parking spaces are planned in an underground garage and 22 parking spaces outside, as well as 186 sqm for commercial space and a day care center. A park with meeting zones is to be created between the houses.

Güterstrasse, which currently still runs through the middle of the site, will in future run along the railroad line with an avenue of trees. The buildings with the rental apartments are arranged towards the railroad tracks. Opposite, in the area of the local recreation zone of the "Giessen", the four buildings with condominiums will be built.

The public announcement for the building application has taken place and the building permit is expected in early summer. Mettler2Invest plans to start construction of the first stage in the first quarter of 2023. The apartments should be ready for occupancy in the first quarter of 2025. Construction of the second stage is also expected to start then. The entire large-scale development should be completed by the beginning of 2027. (ah)
