Since the beginning of 2021, PSP Swiss Property has been extensively renovating the property at Zeughausgasse 26 and 28 in Bern's old town. On May 6, the topping-out ceremony for the property known as Hotel Metropole was celebrated. The building is scheduled to reopen at the end of the year.

PSP Swiss Property acquired the properties in 2004 from the then real estate company of the Feldschlösschen and Hürlimann breweries. The old Hotel Metropole was in urgent need of renovation, and PSP planned to expand the hotel business to include the office space partly used in the building. A new 85-room city hotel was to span both buildings. The real estate company selected SV Hotel AG as the operator, which will open a location of its StayKooooK hotel concept there. Furthermore, the gastronomy on the first floor will be expanded in the course of the conversion: The existing Ristorante Luce will get a wine lounge and a new ballroom, at the same time there will be a take-away offer in the future.

The conversion was carried out in close coordination with the historic preservation office, according to owner PSP. Among other things, the central stairwell was upgraded and returned to its original historic condition. To this end, the elevator installed in 1967 was removed from the stairwell. (ah)
