CKW plans site development in Lucerne
The energy service provider CKW wants to develop the Reussbühl West site in Lucerne, which was previously used for industrial purposes, into an urban district. The study contract has been decided.
In a few years, the energy service provider CKS will give up its site in Reussbühl, and then the 27,000-square-meter area is to be transformed into a neighborhood. The two-stage study contract was won by the project "Habitat - Quartier im Hain" by Salewski Nater Kretz Architekten in collaboration with Office of Living Things and Büro Dudler, Raum- und Verkehrsplanung. It is now to be further developed and form the basis for the "Reussbühl West" development plan.
As part of the study assignment, the planners were also to find a new use for the CKW shed, which is classified as worthy of preservation. At least half of the hall, which used to be a silk spinning mill, is to be preserved. On the remaining area, mainly residential buildings are planned.
The winning project convinced the jury "in its reinterpretation and further development of the historic landscape," CKW wrote in a statement. The design based on the "sponge city" principle cleverly takes up the historical references of the site and combines them with current urban planning and ecological requirements. In addition, the project is characterized by the "skilful integration of the Shedhalle and other existing buildings," according to CKW. (ah)
