Less than two years after its opening, The Circle has received two important sustainability labels: the Minergie- LEED Platinum certificate.
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is considered one of the world's best-known sustainability certifications for buildings. It aims to promote healthy, durable, affordable and environmentally sustainable construction. The Circle received 93 out of a possible 110 points, making it LEED Platinum certified. According to Zurich Airport, it is the highest score ever received by a LEED Platinum certified building in Switzerland. Both in Switzerland and in Europe, the Circle is also the largest building complex with this certification, it said.
The Minergie standard is awarded to buildings that meet certain specifications in terms of energy requirements. In the case of the Circle, the above-average energy efficiency and the high proportion of renewable energy via geothermal probes and photovoltaic systems were decisive for certification. The entire development manages almost entirely without fossil fuels.
"We are proud to hold both the Minergie and LEED Platinum certificates in our hands. Such certification processes require a long-term sustainability strategy and good cooperation with our partners. We are pleased that we were able to meet this requirement," says Stefan Feldmann, Head The Circle Flughafen Zürich AG.
As communicated by the airport company, the next major construction project, the new Dock A with tower and dock root, received a LEED certification. (ah)
