SBB plans overbuilding at Zurich-Wollishofen station
New buildings with apartments as well as retail and restaurant space are to be built on the Wollishofen station site in Zurich's Kreis 2 district. To this end, SBB wants to implement the Wellenlänge project by a Zurich planning team.

According to SBB's plans, the narrow and elongated area of Wollishofen station is to be overbuilt and developed into a lively place to arrive and stay. The architectural competition for the project was won by the Wellenläge project of a team comprising Soppelsa Architekten, Sima Breer Landschaftsarchitektur, WMM Ingenieure and Raum8vier.
The planners propose four buildings to be constructed in two stages. First, a residential building, slightly set back and planned to face the city, will expand the station square into a quieter and partially covered neighborhood square. Adjacent to this will be a two-story, municipal kindergarten. At the same time, a multi-story urban villa is to be built in the adjacent northern neighborhood and play park.
Later, the station square will be redesigned and the signal box replaced by a new building. The listed station building will be preserved. The historic goods shed from 1928, a protected object of cantonal importance, will be dismantled and rebuilt at Bauma station.
The superstructure will create around 90 apartments, one third of which will be affordable. For gastronomy and retail, 550 square meters are planned. An underground garage with 70 parking spaces and centrally located bicycle parking spaces are also planned. The project is expected to be realized from 2025, SBB says. (ah)
