In the Rotmonten quarter of St. Gallen, the AXA Investment Foundation is building 50 rental apartments. At the corner of Ludwigstrasse and Seeblickstrasse, three apartment buildings and three terraced houses with apartments ranging from 1.5 to 6.5 rooms are being built. Completion of the new building is scheduled for the end of 2023.

The existing buildings in the neighborhood were designed at the beginning of the 20th century by the St. Gallen architect Adolf Gaudy. The plans of Axa want to tie in with his idea of the garden city. The current designs are by Staufer & Hasler Architects. A garden courtyard with an adjacent playground for children will be created between the houses.

The attic is executed in an element wood construction. The buildings are heated with ground-source heat pumps. In addition, the exhaust air from the apartments is collected and fed into an exhaust air heat pump per house, which supplies energy for hot water. The entire building complex is Minergie-Eco certified. (aw)
