The Palace Hotel in Lucerne is about to reopen after extensive modernization. According to a statement from the Mandarin Oriental chain, which will operate the new luxury hotel, the 136-room property will open on September 24. The Belle Époque architectural monument on Lake Lucerne was remodeled according to plans by Iwan Bühler Architekten (Lucerne) and London-based interior designers Jestico + Whiles.

The prominent property, built in 1906, changed owners in 2015 (IB reported here). At that time, a Credit Suisse fund sold to the Chinese investor Yunfeng Gao. The cost of the modernization was reported at over CHF 100 million in 2016. (aw)
