The government of the canton of Graubünden has launched a major project in Chur. A new university of applied sciences center is to be built there at Pulvermühlestrasse 57 at a cost of CHF 178 million, which will bundle the university's existing locations. Currently, the UAS is spread across five locations in nine buildings in the city. According to the canton, most of the rented space no longer meets the necessary space requirements for efficient operation worthy of a university. The new building will provide a flexible infrastructure.
At the new location, the university can "secure its locational advantage in the rapidly developing district of Chur West," it says. The university location benefits from the immediate proximity to the local recreation area and good connections to the future Chur West train station. The handover of the new UAS center is planned for the end of 2027. The existing main site on Pulvermühlestrasse is to be renovated by 2030.
The plans for the new building were drawn up by Giuliani Hönger Architekten from Zurich. (aw)
