The Belle Epoque hotel on the shores of Lake Lucerne in Switzerland was closed for five years and underwent extensive renovations over a period of three years. At the end of September, the new operator Mandarin Oriental reopened the hotel as a five-star-plus hotel.

It has 136 guest rooms, including 48 of the city's largest suites, according to Mandarin Oriental. There is also a spa and event space, as well as four restaurants and bars under the direction of Michelin-starred chef Gilad Peled.

The prominent property, built in 1906, changed hands in 2015, when a Credit Suisse fund sold it to Chinese investor Yunfeng Gao. (ah)
