Micro-living in the new Uzwil quarter
Uze AG is realizing a development with serviced apartments in Uzwil. Existing industrial buildings are being converted for this purpose.

The former industrial and commercial area between Neudorfstrasse and Sternenstrasse in Uzwil has been transforming into a residential neighborhood for several years now. Already in 2017, Uze AG built a new building with 14 rental apartments at Sternenstrasse 6. In the same year, the company acquired an adjacent plot of land, where a project with serviced apartments is now being implemented.
Based on a design by the architectural firm led by Tom Munz from St. Gallen, a total of 25 1.5- and 2.5-room apartments are being built on the site of the former A. Sutter AG, which will be rented out for long-term stays via the neighboring Hotel Uzwil.
With the exception of the two original workshops, the buildings from the 1950s and 1960s will be demolished and new living spaces will be created in the existing buildings. The micro-living units at Sternenstrasse 2 are openly organized over two floors and have direct access to the basement. In the factory building at Sternenstrasse 4, the 18 apartments are spread over three floors. To brighten the interior of the rather narrow hall with natural light, covered private outdoor spaces are provided on both long sides, according to Uze AG.
Demolition work on the existing buildings began in October, and completion of the 25 serviced apartments is scheduled for 2024. (ah)
