Rheinfelden: Plans for the "Neue Mitte" become concrete
New residential and commercial areas are to be built around the Rheinfelden train station. The plans have now been presented to the public.

Over the next ten to 15 years, the city of Rheinfelden wants to develop the area around the train station into a "lively place with different functions and versatile uses," according to a statement. To this end, the city, SBB and the landowners, including the Realstone real estate company, are working together.
It is planned that the historic station building will be preserved and renovated, as will the popular station hall. The city wants to buy this from Realstone, renovate it and then use it as a cultural space. Also planned are a transportation hub including a bus terminal and various buildings with apartments and rooms for services. Roniger Park will be made accessible to the public.
Realstone plans apartments and commercial
On the site around the station hall, Realstone is planning two building complexes with apartments and semi-public uses on the first floor. Service providers, local suppliers and low-threshold restaurants are to be accommodated here. Implementation could start in 2025.
On the site to the west of the train station, construction areas are planned for housing and services. The mix of uses envisages a wide range of apartments in various sizes and price categories, as well as space for offices and other services and a small part for commercial uses. Architectural competitions are to be held for this from 2025.
Roniger Park is to become a recreational area near the train station. The owner of the park, the Roniger Rheinfelden Foundation, retains the two villas in the park in its portfolio and continues to rent them out. A new building is planned facing Bahnhofsstrasse. The upper floors are to be used commercially, while a bistro is planned for the first floor. (ah)
