Berne: BPK superstructure is completed
The Urban Square superstructure of the Bernische Pensionskasse BPK on the Gangloff site comprises 180 residential units and 2,500 sqm of commercial space.
After two and a half years of construction, total contractor Porr Suisse has handed over the Urban Square residential and commercial building to investor Bernische Pensionskasse BPK. The development on the former Gangloff industrial site on Bern's Europaplatz comprises 9,000 square meters of living space, divided into 178 apartments and two studios, as well as 2,500 square meters of commercial space for local suppliers.
According to Porr Suisse, the environmental work was fully completed in December 2022 and the project was handed over to the client. The first apartments were already ready for occupancy at the beginning of October 2022.
The complex consists of three interconnected building sections arranged around a landscaped courtyard: An eight-story tower in the west, a lying structure in the north with seven floors and a four-story angular building in the south and east. The two basement levels contain bicycle parking spaces and a large parking garage.
The project will be certified according to the current Minergie standard, Porr Suisse added. A photovoltaic system on the roof will supply electricity, and the waste heat generated from cooling the commercial areas will also be used to heat water. (ah)
