The Sonne site is centrally located in the municipality of Emmen and borders on Sonnenplatz and the Gersag train station. In order to develop the site, the municipality drew up a development plan based on a competition. However, the winning project was rejected by the residents' council in spring 2022. Now the development plan has been adapted and is to go before parliament again. Fewer parking spaces and more green space are now planned, and both owner-occupied and affordable housing have been included in the regulations.

The guideline project envisages four buildings of up to seven stories along the northern and eastern perimeter line, which form an ensemble with the existing development or replacement buildings on Gerliswilstrasse with a central, landscaped open space. The new buildings are designed as individual structures and arranged in such a way that they open up lines of sight in all directions. The development of the area can be implemented in stages; a total of 275 apartments for 500 people can be created; 3,500 square meters of space are planned for commerce, services and gastronomy.

At the end of this year at the earliest, the residents' council can vote again on the project. Before that, the project will be subject to a new preliminary examination by the canton of Lucerne, a public consultation for the entire population, and a public announcement.. (ah)
