Southwest of the cantonal railway station in Altdorf is the last large land reserve in the Uri valley floor. The canton wants to develop the 120,000 sqm site and create new jobs for the region. There are already concrete plans for construction sites 9 and 13: Werkmatt AG, which is backed by real estate entrepreneur Christoph Schoop, is planning a "multifunctional work and creative experience" on the total area of just under 8,700 square meters, according to the canton of Uri. The building lease agreement for the two parcels was concluded at the end of January. Another approximately eight hectares of land are available for sale or building lease by the canton.

On the two construction sites of Werkmatt AG, a meeting place for the entire Werkmatt Uri is to be created. To this end, the concept envisages a combination of meeting zones, a hotel with up to 80 rooms, co-working, commercial and cultural spaces, gastronomy and shopping. Existing structures, for example the flat storage hall, are to be renovated and integrated into the new development. Werkmatt AG is acting as investor and developer. The architectural implementation is the responsibility of the Galli Rudolf office from Zurich.

The investment volume amounts to a sum in the higher double-digit million range. "The fact that those responsible for the project are planning an investment on this scale is gratifying. It is also an expression of the attractiveness of the site and not least of Uri as a business location," says Economic Director Urban Camenzind. (ah)
