Basel: Luxury hotel Les Trois Rois plans million conversion
The head building of the five-star hotel is being renovated according to plans by the renowned architects Herzog & de Meuron. The costs amount to a double-digit million sum.
The Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois in Basel will renovate its head building facing the Schifflände starting in July and has engaged the office of Herzog & de Meuron for this purpose. The renovation of the building is part of the hotel's reorientation towards the future, according to the owners, the Thomas Straumann family. They want to adapt to a new mix of guests and changing needs.
Plans include large suites and a new spa area exclusive to hotel guests, a versatile Grand Salle and a new Salon de Cigare. In addition to the guest area, however, the staff area in the hotel is also being extensively remodeled. According to information from the BZ the costs for the conversion amount to CHF 16 million.
Architect Jacques Herzog is convinced that the redesign of the neo-baroque wing building will further strengthen the attractiveness of the venerable hotel. "New space will be created for hotel guests, but also publicly accessible areas for all who are seduced by the classic elegance and radically contemporary aesthetics of the new part of the building."
Interior remodeling will begin July 1, with major interventions scheduled to take place during the summer months of July and August. The main building of the Grand Hotel will remain open without restrictions. Its guest rooms and public areas are scheduled for renovation starting in 2025. "With these two projects, we would like to once again underline our commitment to the location and to Basel as a cultural destination, and make our hotel ready for the future," the ownership informs.
