When the city of Frauenfeld (TG) takes over the city barracks from the army in January 2024, an era will end: For over 150 years, the barracks with its main building, stables and riding hall have defined the cityscape. The area, which has been closed until now, is to be opened up to the public and put to new use. The area around the listed barracks building in the city center is around 14,000 square meters.

According to the city of Frauenfeld, various uses are conceivable: Work, educational, leisure, cultural or gastronomic offers. "The city barracks should become a center of attraction for the entire region," the statement says. The entire city will benefit from the revitalization.

In a first step, the city is initially looking for interim users who want to move into the barracks and "create an offer for a majority of the population" there. Later, among other things, the "Thurgau Market" is to move into the barracks area and present products, services and ideas from the entire canton.  (ah)
