Weinfelden: Planning application for 300 apartments on the Sangenfeld site
In Weinfelden (TG), HRS is developing and building further apartments on the Sangenfeld site for CHF 130 million. The planning application for the project was submitted recently.

The building application was submitted by the developers HS Investment AG and Meyerhans + Cie AG. A total of 300 apartments will be built in nine buildings on an area of over 22,000 square meters. The designs by Zita Cotti Architekten AG and Kolb Landschaftsarchitektur GmbH, the winners of a competition involving five firms, will be realized. Rental apartments will be built in seven buildings, while condominiums are planned for the remaining two buildings. One building will have a special green façade. Heating will be provided by district heating. All roofs will be equipped with photovoltaic systems.
Revised plans with more inner density
The history of the development on the Sangenfeld site is a long one. In 2017, the zoning plan drawn up at the time was rejected by voters. In 2018, however, two popular initiatives to protect the former workers' housing estate were also clearly rejected. The following year, the revised Weinfeld building regulations came into force with an amended zoning plan, which now provided for "W5/WA5" zoning for the Sangenfeld area.
The landowners then decided to revise the former project and, as requested by the people, to provide for greater inner densification. When drawing up the new project, particular attention was to be paid to a good urban layout and transport links with high-quality open spaces as well as the use of sustainable materials and energy sources.
Construction work could start this year
The "Sangenfeld West" design plan was published in mid-2022 without any objections and became legally binding this spring. Depending on the progress of the building permit procedure, excavation work could possibly begin at the end of the year. To the south of the construction site, the HRS projects "Sangenfeld West Miete" and "Sangenfeld West Eigentum Johanna" are already in the execution phase (IB reported). (aw)
