Arbon: HRS can realize the Riva project
In the referendum on the project directly on the lakeshore, the proponents prevailed. This means that HRS can build the two high-rise buildings.
The people of Arbon (TG) have spoken out in favor of the Riva project. In the vote on the construction project - two 43-metre-high high-rise buildings on a plinth on the lakeshore - 61.7% of voters said yes. The corresponding local planning revision was approved with 64% in favor.
The Riva project by HRS Real Estate AG envisages the demolition of the Hotel Metropol, which has been vacant since 2016, to make way for an ambitious project: Two residential towers, each with a maximum height of 43 meters and 13 floors, are to be built on a shared base level with a restaurant, bar and hall. Apartments and hotel rooms are planned in the two high-rise buildings.
The Riva project was highly controversial for a long time. While opponents spoke of a "disfigurement of the landscape", supporters saw the project as a "great opportunity" for Arbon. The town council and parliament had approved the Riva design plan. But the IG Seeufer ohne Hochhäuser (Lake Shore without High-Rise Buildings IG) had launched a referendum.
Last year, HRS presented an alternative projectif the Riva project were to fail at the ballot box: The owner would then have built a private residential quarter with condominiums, without public uses and without public use of the park. The town council of Arbon has already granted planning permission for the project. (ah)
