Construction work on the Metropol project in Wetzikon began at the start of 2022, and the completion of the shell of the first construction phase was celebrated at the end of June 2023. The project is being realized by the investor Turintra AG, represented by UBS Fund Management (Switzerland) AG, and the developer and total contractor Halter AG. The apartments with 1.5 to 5.5 rooms are scheduled to be ready for occupation in spring 2024, with the second stage expected to be ready for occupation from spring 2026.

In September 2021, the UBS fund Sima acquired the project with 149 apartments and 7844 square meters of retail and commercial space. The project is based on the private Metropol design plan by Bryner Entwicklungen. Once completed, the central development will include stores and restaurants, public-oriented uses and healthcare facilities. Tenants of an existing shopping center, which will be demolished, will be given new space, such as the Migros Activ Fitness chain. A coworking center is also planned.

The main component of the project, which was developed by Halter together with Meierpartner Architekten from Wetzikon, is a central city street for pedestrians and passers-by inside the central development. The new public space is complemented by a town square and a staircase as a cross-connection between Bahnhofstrasse and Jörg-Schneider-Park as well as the Wetzikon vocational college. (aw)
