City of Arbon buys 34,500 square meters of land
In order to be able to control the development of a centrally located key plot of land itself, the town of Arbon (TG) wants to acquire it for CHF 19.5 million.
The 34,500 square meter "Strausswiese" is centrally located in Arbon between Romanshornerstrasse, Zelgstrasse, the railroad line and the buildings to the east of Werftstrasse. The plot is barely developed. According to the current zoning plan, the majority of it is in the agricultural zone. With the approval of the local planning revision by the canton, the area is to be rezoned to a high-density residential zone. The plot is "of great importance" for the future development of the Lake Constance municipality of Arbon, according to a press release. To ensure that the land can be used in the public interest, the town council is seeking to purchase the plot. A purchase price of CHF 19.5 million was agreed during negotiations with the owner. The corresponding purchase agreement has already been approved by the City Council and the purchase has already been notarized, but must still be approved by the electorate. The rezoning must also become legally binding for the land register entry to be completed. (aw)
