The building permit for the new construction project on the "Stadtsäge" site in St. Gallen is legally binding. The plan is to build a timber housing estate to SNBS standard with apartments for students, singles and families as well as a restaurant and a store. The project is being realized by Previs Vorsorge as the developer and Halter AG as the overall contractor. The owner of the site on Steingrüeblistrasse is the Ortsbürgergemeinde St. Gallen.

The development comprises 188 apartments in nine buildings, with an investment volume of CHF 50 million. Construction work is due to start in October. The focal point of the site, which is currently partly derelict, will be the "Sägiplatz" with restaurants and shopping facilities. According to the local community, the development should not only meet high standards in terms of sustainability and social aspects, but also biodiversity. The protected groups of trees and shrubs will be preserved. (aw)
