Zurich: Mobimo converts office building in Wiedikon
The conversion of the laboratory and office building in the Im Tiergarten quarter in Wiedikon has resulted in 59 apartments.
In the Im Tiergarten district of Zurich Wiedikon, an office and laboratory building from the 1990s has been stripped back to its shell and converted into a residential building with 59 apartments. Project manager Bruno Michel from developer Mobimo explains the conversion by saying that the building is too close to the outskirts for an office building, but the location is ideal for residential use. In addition, demand for office space has cooled recently, while residential space is needed in the canton of Zurich.
The conversion was nevertheless complex, as the company Debrunner Acifer Bewehrungen, one of the contractors, writes in a press release. The statics of the building were a challenge: It had limited the structural measures, but at the same time did not meet today's requirements. Furthermore, the infrastructure for wet rooms was lacking - there were no vertical shafts where they were needed for the new apartments. To increase living comfort, Mobimo also had 50 cantilevered balconies added, using Debrunner Acifer reinforcement technology. (ah)
